Elon Musk’s ‘unhinged Twitter tirade’ could get him sued
Crux note: The idea of “elite infallibility” is something famed short seller Scott Fearon writes about in his book, Dead Companies Walking. “Fraudsters often play on affinities to avoid scrutiny,” he says, “Madoff was a master at this.”
With 22.3 million Twitter followers, Elon Musk has risen to a point of near cult-like obsession, which is obviously alarming. As Fearon reminds us, blind infatuation with the “idea” of a CEO can cause investors to overlook warning signs… like when he is self-destructing tweet by tweet…
From the New York Post:
A British cave diver who helped rescue 12 young soccer players from a Thai cave last week said on Monday he’s considering suing Elon Musk for branding him a “pedo” in a tweet.
Vernon Unsworth, who provided expert mapping knowledge of the cave to an international team of divers, told AFP he will weigh his options when he gets back home in the UK and has a chance to examine the tweets.
“If it’s what I think it is, yes,” he said when asked if he would take legal action against Musk, adding, it “ain’t finished.”
The Tesla CEO, referring to Unsworth without using his name, wrote “sorry pedo guy” on his official account to more than 22 million followers on Sunday.
He then doubled down on the claim, writing: “Bet ya a signed dollar it’s true.”
Musk later deleted the tweets.
The unhinged Twitter tirade came after Unsworth said that the miniature submarine the entrepreneur offered up for use in the rescue mission had “absolutely no chance of working.”
